Schools/Education

Scorton once had a famous Grammar School, which was founded by Leonard Robinson and was built in 1720. Unfortunately this closed in 1991 and has since been converted into residential properties. This section contains details of the remaining schools in the village.

Churches
( 3 items )
Scorton is a small and friendly community and the churches have enjoyed an increasingly close relationship over the last few years. This has culminated in the formation of a Churches Together group in Scorton, which is part of a wider national organisation, working towards church unity.
They work together in various ways planning joint services, lent meetings and other activities.
The Christmas Carol Service is held each year in St. Mary's Church - the only church big enough to accommodate the large congregation who gather to worship and celebrate on this occasion.

Other
( 3 items )
Scorton was once described as the most complete village in the country. In the early 1900s it boasted its own courthouse, police station, undertakers, cobblers, slaughter house, butchers, grocers just to name a few. Many of these facilities have now gone, but the bare essentials remain - here are the rest!
